How We Moderate and Protect Memorial Content
Fondly Missed exists to hold something precious: the memory of someone a family loves. That responsibility shapes how we moderate contributions, protect content, and keep families in control. These are the standards we hold ourselves to.
Family approval, always
Every memorial is moderated. When a guest leaves a tribute, a photo, or a guestbook message, it doesn't appear straight away — it waits in a queue for a family admin to approve it. Nothing a stranger writes lands on a loved one's page without the family's say-so. This is built into the platform, not an optional setting.
How moderation works
- Guest contributions are held as pending until a family admin approves or declines them.
- Optional AI screening can flag clearly unsafe content to help families, but a person always makes the final call — it never auto-rejects.
- Families can let a memorial auto-approve clearly-safe contributions if they prefer, and turn it off at any time.
- We act on reports of abuse, impersonation or harmful content, in line with our content policy.
How we protect memorial content
- Memorials are permanent pages, not posts that scroll away.
- Privacy is the family's to set: a memorial can be public, unlisted, or kept private.
- Families can export their memorial's content, and name a successor so the page outlives a single account.
- Only public, listed memorials appear in our sitemaps and public directory; unlisted and private memorials are kept out, and our crawl policy asks AI-training bots not to take memorial photos.
Our editorial standards
Our grief-resource guides are written to be gentle, accurate and genuinely useful. We don't fabricate stories or quotes, we use composite examples rather than real families, and every guide is reviewed for tone because people meet it at a hard moment. Where a guide is translated, a native speaker signs off — we never machine-fabricate a language.
What stays in the family's hands
The memorial belongs to the family. Taking a page down, transferring it, or removing content the family published is their decision, not ours. And we never feature a real family's memorial in our marketing without a clear consent process first.
